G-spot is not your typical skate or snowboard shop… we are the tiny purple shop that is doing our own thing. What makes us so different? Probably the most obvious difference is that unlike most stores, we are not in a strip mall or some sort of conventional retail space. Nope, our shop is in a house… and a purple one at that! Since 1996 our store has been focused on getting the best selection of products for people who love to skateboard and/or snowboard. We offer a mix that is a little of this and a little of that… some stuff is boutique flavor and fun and other items are the tried and true hits. Besides boards we have footwear and clothing for men, women and kids.

Besides a premium selection of brands we have a staff that knows what they are talking about. Everyone who works here either skates and/or snowboards himself or herself… and we skate and/or ride as much as we possibly can. We are here because we love what we are doing, not just to have a cool job at the mall.

The History of G-spot by former team rider/employee Bill Sands

In 1492, (oh wait that was that Columbus guy)… actually it was in 1994 that two guys, Mark Levito and Michael Schoppe, dreamed one day they would open a business that involved something they loved. So a couple hours later they opened a skateboard and snowboard shop. In 1994 (remember that date there will be a quiz later) Mark and Mike incorporated as 100% Adrenalin. They opened the original store in New Hope, Pennsylvania. The shop started out with very little product to sell. They had very few styles of shoes, small amounts of snowboards and skateboards, and very little gear. I have a very faint memory of the shop in New Hope. What pushes its way past the cobwebs in my brain are Sonny and the parrot. If you were never there, there is no need to explain. After they put in a long and arduous journey (for a year) in New Hope, 100% Adrenalin moved to Fairless Hills in 1995 due to a lack of “core” customers in New Hope. With the move and in an effort to show Mark and Mike’s more professional approach to the business world, 100% Adrenalin was renamed G-Spot Skateboards and Snowboards. To continue with their professionalism they decided to paint the new shop purple.

My first visit here is still remembered strongly in my mind. I walked up to this purple monster as a prepubescent teen with fear in my mind. I walked to the front door, but it was closed. “Were they open?”, I thought. So I walked around back. On the back door there was a sign. It stated, “ring bell” in handwriting written by a third grader. So I rang the bell. A man (later to be known as Mike Shoppe) answered the door in socks, sweatpants, and a blanket wrapped around him like it was December. His hair showed signs of bed head and he had dragon breath. I entered the shop and went into the basement. Wow!… there was a couch, a few chairs, and a big screen T.V.. (Oh, that must have been Michael’s bed for last night).

As I glanced over the skate counter one thing comes to mind… The milk commercial when the guy says “what do you want to drink?”and the lady says “I’ll have a juice” and the cow says “you’ll have a milk”. Well if you never saw the commercial, I am sorry you’ll miss this metaphor… Anyway, I asked for a Girl board. Mike replied, “no, we don’t have that but I do have this Channel One board”. “Nah” I said, “how about an Alien board?” to which Mike replies, “how about this Channel One board?” “Nah,” I said, “How about a Real?”… To make a long story short I got the Channel One.

And that is how it was back then. You never quite knew what to expect when you came in the shop. There were random people and random left over party favors. By 1997 (barely a year after opening) Mike left the company to wander out West and around that same time Leslie came on board. Leslie became our pseudo mom/sister and from that point the G-spot family was born. And it’s still running strong. The managers today are the kids that were buying their first boards here over a decade ago.

To wrap things up, G-spot has come a long way. It was never intended to last this long… Mark and Mike were just doing whatever they could to not get real jobs (no this was far from a real thing, which is why the name G-spot seemed so fun). And the staff that later followed made sure that this shop would be their vehicle to never have to work a regular 9 to 5. G-spot went from little product and little professionalism to anything you want and great quality service. The youth doesn’t understand how good they have it!

From Philly and Points South, we are an easy 30 minute drive from Center City (if you know where Sesame Place is we are just around the corner). From Philly and Points South take I-95 North to Exit 44 Penndel/Levittown. Take a right off the the exit and continue north up Business Route 1 about 2 miles. You should see the Oxford Valley Mall on your left and in the distance you will see a purple building. That's us up on the right just past the Pontiac/GMC dealership.
